Barbra Streisand under fire for controversial comments about Michael Jackson

Barbra Streisand michael jackson comments

Barbra Streisand faces criticism for her latest comments about Michael Jackson and his alleged molestation of several boys.

Promoting her concert in Hyde Park, London, this summer, The Times asked the gay icon what she thought of documentary Leaving Neverland in an interview released Friday (22 March). In the documentary, Wade Robson and James Safechuck allege Michael Jackson molested them as children.

While the star says she ‘absolutely’ believes the men, she appears to not condemn Jackson for his alleged actions.

The 76-year-old said Jackson was ‘very sweet, very childlike’, and: ‘His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has.’

She added: ‘You can say “molested”, but those children, as you heard them say [as adults], they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them.’

When asked if she is angry at Michael Jackson, she says: ‘It’s a combination of feelings. I feel bad for the children. I feel bad for him. I blame, I guess, the parents, who would allow their children to sleep with him.

‘Why would Michael need these little children dressed like him and in the shows and the dancing hats?’

Barbra Streisand on #MeToo

Not stopping at just Jackson, the legendary singer says women may find it more difficult to find employment in the post #MeToo age.

The star said it was ‘very powerful’ but: ‘Unfortunately, it’s going to cause a lot of women not being hired because men are worried they’ll be attacked.’

The interviewer clarifies her comments, saying she means men will be worried about being accused of sexual misconduct.
