Barbra Streisand's son on duet with his mom and why he took so long to pursue music

Barbra Streisand sings duets with famous singers like Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Michael Buble on her new album, Partners, out next week.

Then there is a guy named Jason Gould.

He is her only child (his father is actor Elliot Gould) but waited until his mid-40s to begin pursuing music.

‘I started exploring singing and music late in life,’ the openly gay Gould says in a promo video released Friday (12 September).

‘It was not something I really thought I would ever do because my mother’s such an icon. I thought, "I can’t open my mouth. People would compare me and I just didn’t think I’d ever want to go there.

‘But I also had a need to express myself and explore my own musicality.’

Streisand said when she heard some of the songs her son had record, ‘it was jaw dropping. Where has this been?’

Gould, 47, appeared with his mother during her hugely successful Back to Brooklyn tour where they sang How Deep is the Ocean together. It is this song that they perform on the new album.

He last worked together with his famous mom in the 1991 film The Prince of Tides in which she played her character’s son. Streisand also directed and produced the film which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
