BBC sorry after Rio Olympics commentator made homophobic remark

Paul Hand made a homophobic remark

The BBC has apologized after a Rio Olympics commentator made a homophobic remark.

Paul Hand, working at the tennis yesterday, spoke about the kisscam that was panning the crowd.

He said: ‘Let’s hope they don’t go on to two blokes sat next to each other.’

Hand, who’s career high was as finalist in 1994 in the Wimbledon Men’s doubles, went on to become a broadcaster and tennis coach.

Twitter reacted angrily to the remark.

The BBC has issued an apology, admitting the comments were ‘ill-judged’.

A spokesman said: ‘The comment was ill judged and we apologise to any of our viewers who were offended.’
