Bearded Buttigieg sparks ‘Mayor Woof for President’ viral hit

A bit of fake news may inspire Pete Buttigieg to boost his popularity – by growing a beard.

Bearded photos of the former mayor and Democratic candidate for the presidency emerged yesterday. But these images disprove the old phrase ‘the camera never lies’.

Instead Jim Fall, director of the classic gay film Trick and its upcoming sequel Trick 2, added Buttigieg’s facial hair through FaceApp.

The app generates highly realistic transformations of faces in photographs by using neural networks based on artificial intelligence.

The app can transform a face to make it smile, look younger, look older, or change gender. It can add tattoos, makeup and – as Fall discovered – beards.

In any case the photos have revealed one way Buttigieg may sweep up more votes. Social media responded by calling him ‘mayor woof for president’.

As Fall told Advocate: ‘I think seeing Pete with a beard gives people pause. It’s like, dang, he’s smart and sexy. That’s an intoxicating combination.’

‘It’s amazing an out gay man is a serious contender’

There is still a wide field of candidates and everything to play for in the race to win the Democratic nomination and take on Donald Trump on 3 November.

Buttigieg is the first ever openly gay candidate for the presidency, and the youngest candidate in the race. But despite this, he is still not guaranteed the LGBT+ vote.

Many LGBT+ voters are supporting Bernie Sanders. And Elizabeth Warren has attracted widespread LGBT+ support, ranging from the executive editors of Advocate and Out to a New York gay porn maker who is offering free access to his OnlyFans in return for Warren donations.

However, Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is currently leading the race.

Buttigieg has 22 delegates of the 1,990 needed to secure the nomination. Meanwhile Bernie Sanders is comes in second with 21 and Elizabeth Warren third with eight.

On the other hand, Buttigieg may find the going tougher with the primary in South Carolina on 29 February. After that, Super Tuesday will swiftly follow on 3 March with 14 states and 1,344 delegates up for grabs.

And everything has changed with billionaire Mike Bloomberg entering the race late and spending millions on advertising.

Even Fall is not sure who he will vote for.

He added: ‘I’m still on the fence about who I’ll vote for ultimately. But both Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren have stayed at the top of my list. Elizabeth doesn’t look so good in a beard or mustache so I didn’t post those.

‘It’s amazing to me that we are living in a time when an out gay married man is a serious contender for the presidency.

‘No matter what you feel about his specific politics, the LGBTQ community should be celebrating.’
