Bella Thorne claims she has lost movie roles since coming out as bisexual

Bisexual actress Bella Thorne has revealed her being open about her sexuality has costed her roles.

The Assassination Nation star has opened up about her coming out and the way others in the movie industry perceive bisexuality.

Thorne came out in 2016 in a low-key tweet, by simply replying ‘yes’ to a direct question from a fan.

Thorne has lost roles due to her sexuality

In an interview with Gay Times, the 21-year-old claimed she had lost auditions ever since coming out.

‘There were a few places on the acting side that were very negative about it. There was someone who, right after I came out, canceled my audition,’ she said.

She said it’s not as explicit as not hiring someone because of their sexuality, but she felt people’s attitude towards her changed over the last two years.

‘It’s not like anybody comes up to you and says, “Well, you’re gay so I’m not going to hire you”. I haven’t had that.’

She furthermore added: ‘But you can just tell by the way that people act differently around you, the way they treat you differently, the way that they look at you or the way that they tiptoe around certain subjects because they’re walking on eggshells.’

‘In this business, that behavior makes it all very obvious.’

‘No one understands bisexuality’

Thorne also claimed biphobia is real in the movie industry.

‘It seems like no one understands bisexuality at all. In this world it’s like you’re either gay or you’re straight; there’s no in between. If you fucked a guy once, you must be gay. Like, what? No. That’s just being fluid.’

The actress is in an open relationship with YouTuber Tana Mongeau and singer Mod Sun.

She stated: ‘Yeah, we joke around about poly, but we aren’t in the sense that we don’t put a word, a box or label too many things. It is what it is.’
