The business mind behind Yves Saint Laurent has died aged 86.
Pierre Bergé was a prominent LGBT rights campaigner.
He died in his sleep earlier today (8 Sept) at 5am.
Bergé and his partner Yves Saint Laurent were joined in a civil union days before the Saint Laurent died of a brain tumour in 2008.
Bergé donated AIDS research.
He was at his country home in southern France when he passed away.
Former French culture minister Jack Lang called Bergé a ‘true prince of the arts and culture.’
He said: ‘He was a magician who made his life and those who he loved a symphony of happiness,
‘Pierre Bergé was above all a marvelous and loyal friend… who was there to take on all the good fights, the noble causes, in particular, to provide the means for research to defeat AIDS.’
