Berlin Festival to premier Brazilian director Daniel Ribeiro’s debut gay feature movie

The Berlin International Film Festival has revealed the first list of movies for its Panorama 2014.

Along with new works from big names such as Michel Gondry of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Brazil’s Daniel Ribeiro will premier his first feature movie around Valentine’s Day in Berlin.

When Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho (I Don’t Want to Go Back Alone) was released in 2010, the short movie – depicting how Leonardo, a 15-year-old blind boy, deals with the jealousy of his friend Giovana while figuring out the new feelings he is having for his new friend Gabriel – soon won Ribeiro the hearts of movie buffs and the LGBTI community alike.

As the 31-year-old director extends the short to feature length with the same troupe, some are predicting Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho (The Way He Looks) can go beyond the 13 awards he received last time, starting off with Berlinale’s Crystal Bear.

Ribeiro has already won the festival’s award for LGBTI movies in 2008 with Café com Leite (You, Me and Him).
