Manny Pacquiao said gay people are worse than animals

Filipino boxer, pastor and national hero Manny Pacquiao has said he is ‘sorry to those I’ve hurt’ after he said gay couples were ‘worse than animals’.

The boxing legend, currently running for a senate seat, was asked about his stance on same-sex marriage yesterday (15 February).

‘It’s only common sense. Would you see any species of animals who engage in male to male, female to female [sexual] relations? Animals, then, are better than humans [in that sense]. They know how to distinguish males from females,’ he said.

‘If people then engage in male to male, female to female relations, then they are worse than animals,’ he added.

After international outrage, Pacquiao has now apologized – sort of.

‘I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals,’ he said. ‘Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you.’

Pacquiao’s comments are, of course, inaccurate. Homosexuality has been observed in thousands of species across the globe from penguins to dogs.
