Caldwell Presbyterian Church was burgled by a homophobic vandal

A burglar broke into a gay-friendly church to graffiti Bible verses condemning wrong-doers.

The vandal appeared to have broken in by breaking a window in an all-gender bathroom at the Caldwell Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Barista Alicia Bell opened up the non-profit coffee shop The Third Place, a part of the church, on Thursday morning.

She said 15 bags of coffee, a water kettle, grinders, a water heater, a goose-neck kettle and some food from the refrigerator had been stolen.

But there was also graffiti scribbled on walls, doors, aand a table.

On a painting of a rainbow-colored map of North Carolina, it simply said: 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11.

It reads: ‘Wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

‘And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.’

Reverend John Cleghorn said the congregation, of around 300 members, will not be ‘intimidated’.

‘It was clearly meant to send a message,’ he told the Charlotte Observer.

‘We’re going to continue doing what we feel is right.’
