Caitlyn Jenner to attend inauguration – but not as invited guest of Trump

Caitlyn Jenner is a staunch Republican.

Caitlyn Jenner will attend the presidential inauguration this week but not as an invited guest of Donald Trump.

The transgender Olympian-turned-reality star will attend as a guest of American Unity Fund, People.com reports.

‘Republicans need help understanding LGBTQ issues and I’m here to help! Jenner tweeted earlier today.

Jenner’s staunch Republican views have chipped away at the swell of goodwill she initially enjoyed after coming out as a transgender woman in 2015.

‘Caitlyn has been a Republican all her life and she sees this as an opportunity to represent and defend the LGBTQ community within the party,’ a source close to Jenner says.

The American Unity Fund is a non-profit conservative organization dedicated to advancing the cause of freedom and equal opportunity for LGBTQ Americans.

‘Caitlyn sees this as a chance to bring attention to LGBTQ causes and she is committed to protecting human rights no matter the political party in power,’ says the source.

‘She has no problem speaking out if Republicans fail to protect equal rights.’

It has been Republican lawmakers who have pushed for anti-LGBTI legislation both on the federal and state level in recent years.

These include so-called ‘bathroom bills’ forcing transgender people to use bathrooms corresponding with their gender at birth instead of the gender they identify as.
