Caitlyn Jenner, a long-time Republican, was a featured speaker at the College Republican National Committee convention gala on Friday 16 June. During her speech, she referenced the GOP baseball practice attack in Virginia, where Republican representative Steve Scalise was critically injured.
‘Nobody deserves what happened out there,’ she reportedly said. ‘There’s no justification for it.’
‘There’s crazy people in the world — we know that. We have to minimize that kind of stuff. But, as far as the people who were injured, it’s an absolute shame. Fortunately, the guy was a really bad shot.’
Jenner was met with laughter and applause at the gala after this comment.
Now, Jenner is facing backlash over the comment, including from Will & Grace star Debra Messing.
