Call Me By Your name has led the LGBTI nominations at the Oscars this year, including for the sought-after ‘Best Picture’ category.

They go into the biggest award night of the year, with four nominations.

So despite walking away empty-handed from this year’s Golden Globe Awards, they’re set for a promising night at the Academy Awards. The Golden Globes are often seen as a good predictor for the Academy Awards.

Call Me By Your Name is follows American student (Armie Hammer) who works as his professor’s assistant during an Italian summer while falling in love with 17-year-old Elio (Timothée Chalamet).

One snub the film did get was for Michael Stuhlbarg who some critics have already said should have been nominated for ‘Supporting Actor.’ However, Richard Jenkins who plays a gay character in the Shape of Water did get a nomination in this category.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri leads the nominations in rest of the categories.

Elsewhere, Rachel Morrison has become the first woman to get nominated for the ‘Cinematography’ award.

Greta Gerwig becomes the fifth woman ever nominated for ‘Best Director.’ But, she is the first woman in history to be nominated for her debut. Historically, 21 men have been nominated for their directing debut before.

The trans actress Daniela Vega also missed out on a nomination for A Fantastic Woman.
