Cam and Mitch to get 9th and 10th seasons as Modern Family renewed

The adventures of Modern Family’s Mitch and Cam will continue.

It was announced Wednesday (10 May) that the ensemble comedy featuring the gay couple and their family has been renewed by ABC for two more seasons.

The show is currently in season eight.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, who play Mitch and Cam, are among the eight cast member who received raises from around $350,000 per episode to about $500,000, according to Deadline Hollywood.

The others are Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara.

Negotiations are now expected to begin for the show’s younger cast members.

‘We are beyond thrilled that we get to spend more time with these characters, these amazing actors, our ridiculously-talented writers and our incredible crew – all of whom are like family to us,’ co-creator Steve Levitan said in a statement.

‘And the good kind of family, not the kind that argues with you all the time.’

The show has won five Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series and remains ABC’s highest-rated comedy.

It revolves around three different types of families (nuclear, step- and same-sex) who are interrelated through Jay Pritchett (O’Neill) and his children.

Mitch and Cam have have an adopted Vietnamese daughter named Lily. Their marriage took place at the end of season five.
