We last caught up with LA-based DJ, producer and songwriter Ellis Miah last fall, ahead of the release of the RuPaul Christmas album he had just co-written and produced.
But Miah is a man for all seasons: He’s been working on his own material for the past few months and the first results, awesome single ‘Summer Got Me Like’, is released today on iTunes.
Miah told GSN that the song came about through his work with the Drag Race Legend.
‘[RuPaul] sort of nudged me and inspired me to work on an artist EP. Since so much of the fun we have together is collaborating with guest artists I wanted to continue that vibe.’
To help with the track, Miah invite fellow LGBT artists Cazwell (‘Ice Cream Truck’), AB Soto and Devmo to lend their vocal and rapping skills.
‘While I was producing TS Madison’s ‘Out The Box’ she heard the song and said, Cazwell needs to be on this record. She called him up and he came to the studio!
‘AB [Soto] was a natural fit. I met Devmo when she won an artist showcase I was judging for a music school. She kept sending me these amazing verses and I just had to have her on the record.’
‘I love summer. I love the effect it has on people: it makes us hopeful, adventurous , amorous and carefree. I also love the return to house music we are experiencing so I wanted to create something that put those two things together.’
Check out the video above, and look out for Miah’s full EP, with more guest appearances, later in the summer.
