Celebrity Big Brother’s Rodrigo Alves is under fire for twice using a racial slur.
In a conversation with Dan, Gabby, Chloe and Natalie on Thursday night (16 August) and aired last night (17 August), Alves was explaining the type of man he likes.
Talking to The Only Way is Essex’s Dan Osbourne, Alves says: ‘Look at this – he’s not my type anyway.’
Bad Girls Club’s Natalie Nunn responds: ‘So what is it then? Whose type is it?’
Alves responds: ‘I like, like, a [n-word] boy. Do you know what I mean? He’s too white for my sake.’
Love Island’s Gabby Allen responds in shock: ‘A what?’
Then Alves repeats the racial slur.
Big Brother issues ‘formal and final warning’
The next morning, Big Brother calls Alves into the diary room to give him a warning for his use of language.
Big Brother said: ‘Rodrigo, before you entered the Big Brother house, the rules regarding unacceptable language and behaviour were explained to you.
‘This morning at 2.40am in the bedroom, in a conversation with Dan, Gabby, Chloe and Natalie, you used the n-word twice.
‘Rodrigo, this word is highly offensive, and very likely to cause offence to both your housemates and the viewing public,’ Big Brother said.
Alves responded: ‘Last night I was very excited to be here, and I had quite a lot to drink, and I was intoxicated.
‘Today I’m very hungover, and obviously I regret that, using the n-word, that was not necessary at all. It was just excitement.’
Big Brother then responded: ‘None of that is relevant Rodrigo, that is not an excuse.
‘As a result of your use of offensive language, Big Brother is giving you a formal and final warning. If you use this language in the house again, you will be removed from the house immediately,’ Big Brother warned.
Alves responded: ‘Okay – I understand.’
Big Brother does not tolerate the use of highly offensive, racially charged language in the House. Rodrigo has received a formal and final warning and if he uses such language again, he will be removed immediately. Rodrigo has apologised for his comments. #CBB pic.twitter.com/NX8scGPUkW

Social media backlash
As a result of the incident, many are calling on the show’s producers to go further and remove Rodrigo Alves from the house altogether.
A similar incident occurred in 2007 when housemate Emily Parr called a fellow housemate the n-word.
As a result, Big Brother immediately removed her from the house.
Many are wondering why they’re not kicking Alves out this time.
When Big Brother posted the apology scene to Twitter last night (17 August), some responded in outrage at the decision.
One Twitter user wrote: ‘Rodrigo is just given a final warning for saying the N word twice? He should be kicked out!!!’
Another tweeted: ‘Disgraceful that @bbuk @channel5_tv did not remove Rodrigo for such offensive language. The use of the N word should constitute instant eviction. Shame on you! He may have apologised but you have a moral responsibility to remove him.’
Rodrigo Alves pulled out of the previous season of Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year to have his ribs removed.
