Gay icon Cher tweeted about being away in March, hinting even more strongly about a Sydney Mardi Gras appearance.
At the start of this month, she tweeted: ‘Where am I going in March?!’
And now she’s just tweeted another not-so cryptic clue.
OK….. YOU BOYS🌈KNOW WHERE I’LL 🐝IN MARCH
— Cher (@cher) 30 December 2017
The Sydney Mardi Gras is 3 March, 2018.
She hashtags ‘Put some shrimp on the barbie’ – an often-quoted phrase that originated in an Australian television commercial in the 1980s. It’s a not-so subtle way of saying she’ll be in Australia.
As soon as the news broke, fans scrambled to buy tickets to the official Sydney Mardi Gras After Party.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras then posted on Facebook that all tickets were sold out, just hours after the tweet.
The post read: ‘The 2018 Mardi Gras Party sold out today! THANK YOU to everyone who booked. We have some amazing announcements coming very soon.
‘It’s going to be an INCREDIBLE night. Get excited!’
‘Do you believe?’
The news was also reported by the Sydney Morning Herald of Fairfax Media. They claim sources close to the festival said Cher is ‘almost locked in’ to perform.
Brandon Bear, co-chair of Sydney Mardi Gras, declined to confirm Cher’s inclusion to the publication, but added ‘no announcement has been made’. He also said ‘part of the excitement of the party is waiting to find out who the headliner will be.’
The Believe singer turned 71 on 21 May this year.
