Three years and counting

Lemon, who came out as gay in 2011, is one of CNN’s most well-known anchors.

He has been with the media group since 2006 and hosts CNN Tonight With Don Lemon which airs at 10pm on weeknights.

The 53-year-old has been in a relationship with Malone since 2016. The couple shared an on-air kiss during CNN’s New Year coverage in 2018.

The journalist has been vocally opposed to many of the actions of the US government since Donald Trump became president.

He, and fellow anchor, Anderson Cooper, who is also openly gay, have condemned several of the president’s more controversial moments, such as Trump’s remarks about immigrants and ‘shithole countries’.

In 2015, Lemon also asked then-candidate Trump if he was homophobic, to which Trump responded: ‘I think I’m a nice person’.

However, Lemon’s career has also had its bumpy patches. In 2014, the anchor was included in the Columbia Journalism Review’s ‘most cringe-worthy news blunders’.
