This company is turning anti-gay marriage leaflets into beautiful confetti

A company in Ireland is turning anti-gay marriage leaflets into beautiful confetti ahead of the country’s referendum on the issue in May.

Daintree Paper in Dublin has received orders for the heart-shaped confetti from as far as the US and Australia, all proceeds for which will go to advocacy group Yes Equality.

The Shred of Decency campaign was launched Tuesday (7 April) in response to anti-gay marriage leaflets handed out by hate groups, some claiming that being gay will give you cancer and same-sex marriage ‘exposes’ children to the ‘sounds of Sodomy.’

Daintree is asking members of the public to drop any anti-gay marriage flyers or leaflets into their store or tweet them dishonest posts using the hashtag #ShredThisTweet. They will then print the tweets and recycle them into confetti.

‘We believe in making beautiful things out of paper. So when paper was used to print some ugly lies in the run up to the marriage equality referendum, we wanted to do something about it,’ an ad for the campaign says.

‘Whenever ugly lies are printed, we’ll make beautiful confetti.’
