Complaints made to BBC over trans character on EastEnders

Transgender character came out in EastEnders

Complaints have been made to the BBC over a transgender character on EastEnders.

For the first time in the soap’s history, the British soap is exploring a transgender storyline with a transgender male actor.

Played by Riley Carter Millington, Kyle told fan fave character Stacey that he was her brother. When Stacey didn’t believe him, saying her dad had three sisters with his other family, Kyle admits to being born ‘Sarah’.

Several people took to Twitter to complain about the episode.

However, this was a small amount compared to the amount of support the character received.

The BBC has not responded to the transphobic complaints.

This isn’t the first time viewers have complained over EastEnders. Last year, a gay kiss received a huge amount of backlash on social media but the complaints were largely ignored.
