RuPaul’s Drag Race star Courtney Act is hoping to represent Australia in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.
Courtney released new single Fight For Love this week. She will compete against other acts for Australia’s entry at a televised selection show in February.
‘To compete to represent Oz in Eurovision is second only to being on that stage in Tel Aviv and singing my lungs out for my country’, Courtney said.
Courtney described Fight For Love as a ‘dancefloor banger all about coming together and fighting for the things we believe in’.
Courtney, also known as Shane Jenek, made history when she showcased her drag skills in season one of Australian Idol.
‘A sweet 16 years after Australian Idol, I have the chance to show Australia how I have grown as an artist and performer and I am so excited’ said Act.
Eurovision – Australia Decides will be broadcast on Saturday 9 February next year.
Busy year for Courtney
Gender-neutral Courtney returned to television in 2014 when she made the final three in RuPaul’s Drag Race.
She is currently fronting E! reality dating show The Bi Life. In the show, single people who identify as bisexual, pansexual and sexually fluid live together in a house in Spain as they search for love.
This year she also won Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. Last month, she revealed she slept with a well-known British male celebrity.
Speaking to The Mirror, Courtney explained: ‘I did attract the attention of a certain gentleman whom I had intimate relations with and I didn’t know they were really famous.’
On Christmas Eve, Courtney will host Courtney Act’s Christmas Extravaganza.
She told Digital Spy the show will be ‘bloody gay’.
‘It’s so much fun. It’s nothing like anything that’s on television at the moment, that I’ve seen.
