Chris Stokes called football players 'bunch of faggots'.

Coventry City footballer Chris Stokes could face suspension or massive fines after calling other soccer players a ‘bunch of faggots’ on Twitter.

As the world was celebrating Leicester City come from 5000-1 to winning the Premier League, the 25-year-old defender appeared to tweet a homophobic slur to describe the team.

‘This games [sic] embarrassing to watch!’ he said. ‘Bunch of faggots.’

While Coventry City is League One, the third tier of the English football system, and Leicester City is in the Premier League, the top, there is a traditional ‘rivalry’ between the two teams.

Shortly after the tweet, Stokes apologized claiming he had no idea what the term ‘faggot’ meant.

Speaking to Gay Star News, a FA spokesperson said: ‘We’re aware of the tweet and we’ll be investigating it.’

In February, Paris St-Germaine player Serge Aurier was the latest player to face disciplinary action for homophobia. He was suspended for two months and was forced to play with a youth team after calling coach Laurent Blanc a ‘faggot’ on Periscope. Other footballers have faced heavy fines and suspensions.
