Cruz argues ‘bathroom bills’ allow child rape

James Van Kuilenburg

Senator Ted Cruz knows this: when transgender citizens use bathrooms, child rape is likely to happen. The Republican presidential candidate was a guest on the news show Meet the Press, and he slammed ‘bathroom bills,’ GOP candidate Donald Trump, and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (who is presently in the Democratic Party primary).

Cruz noted Trump came out against North Carolina’s HB2, a law blocking transgender citizens from using the bathrooms of their gender identity.

‘It doesn’t make any sense to allow grown adult men, strangers, to be alone in a bathroom with little girls,’ Cruz said. ‘And virtually all Americans understand that.’

Host Chuck Todd asked the Texas senator about  Caitlyn Jenner’s video of using the bathroom in Trump Tower. The businessman/reality star remarked Jenner, and other trans people, could use the restroom of the gender of which they identify at any  Trump-owned property. A camera followed her as she walks into the building and asks for directions to the ladies room. She is directed. without incident, and enters the room with a ‘W’ on the door.

She emerges she says to the camera: ‘Thank you Donald, I really appreciate it. And by the way Ted (Cruz), nobody got molested.’

Cruz sidestepped the video and kept his focus on men in female restrooms.

‘If you pass a law…that says any adult man can go into a girls’ restroom if he feels like a woman at that minute…the real danger is not people who are transgender. It’s people who are predators, who use that law as an excuse to go target our kids.’

As PolitiFact notes, the senator plays fast and loose with the facts when it comes to transgender identity.

‘Medical experts typically agree that a transgender woman is a woman who identifies differently from her assigned sex at birth, though there isn’t universal agreement on this point,’ the site argued last week. ‘So it’s not entirely accurate for Cruz to define a transgender woman as “a grown man pretending to be a woman.”‘
