- Bisexual actress and activist Nixon appeared on Andy Cohen’s show to promote Ratched.
Actress Cynthia Nixon allowed herself to speculate on the possibility of someone replacing Kim Cattrall, if another Sex & The City movie ever got made. Of course, the chances of that happening are currently slim, given Cattrall, 64, has ruled herself out from returning to the role.
Nixon, 54, Sharon Stone, 62, and Sarah Paulson, 45, appeared via video on Watch What Happens Next Live! With Andy Cohen on Tuesday night. They were there to promote the new Ryan Murphy Netflix drama, Ratched, in which they all appear.
Sharon Stone a possible Samantha Jones
Cohen asked the women a question someone tweeted the show: Could Stone see herself replacing Cattrall as Samantha Jones?
“Any time I could have an opportunity to work with Cynthia [Nixon] would be an honor to me,” replied Stone.
“I think Sharon would be of course totally amazing,” added Nixon. “Kim was incredibly great as Samantha, I think Sharon would totally make it her own.
“But I’ve also heard many people say, including Kim Cattrall herself, that if we were to have a different fourth woman that maybe it would be a woman of color this time,” Nixon continued. “And I think that would be amazing as well.”
Stone nodded in agreement, saying, “I think that’s right.” Watch the exchange below.
Sex & The City ran from 1998-2004 and yielded two spin-off movies.
After 2014’s second Sex & The City movie, Cattrall told The Guardian last year, “I went past the finish line playing Samantha Jones because I loved Sex and the City. It was a blessing in so many ways but after the second movie I’d had enough.”
There’s also the fact that Cattrall and lead actress, Carrie Bradshaw, had quite a public falling out in recent years. The chances of them working together again appear remote.
Both Nixon and Cattrall have now moved on to new projects since their Sex & The City days. Besides her acting, Nixon has devoted much of her time to politics, unsuccessfully running for the position of New York governor in 2018.
Cattrall stars in the brand new Fox show Filthy Rich, which premiered in the US this week.
