Transgender singles now have a far better chance of finding love on the location-based dating app Tinder.
Users who used to have to pick from one of two genders — male or female — can now choose from almost 40 options.
Those options include Transgender Woman, Transgender Man, Transmasculine, Two-Spirit, Neutrois, Non-Binary and Other.
If none of those options fit, users can write in their own.
‘For many trans people, opening up to a new romantic prospect about being trans can be a really nerve-racking experience,’ said trans advocate Andrea James who was among the transgender community leaders who consulted on the changes.
‘I know this update will help trans and gender non-conforming users feel more comfortable while forging new relationships.’
The change was also needed but because some trans people had issues with users who report people just for being trans.
Tinder CEO and Founder Sean Rad says the app has created more than 20 billion matches in 196 counties.
‘We want to make sure that everyone has the ability to meet someone new that can have a profound impact on their lives.’
