US singer Demi Lovato said she was ‘gonna pass’ when asked about her sexuality.
Demi’s name was in headlines last week after a fan spotted her holding hands with a woman at Disneyland.
In a recent interview with Pride Source, they referenced that the craze around figuring out her sexuality.
They explained: ‘Your sexuality has been thoroughly dissected by the Internet after you alluded to being open to both genders.’
Pride Source then offered Demi the opportunity to comment on the speculation around her sexuality, and she politely declined.
Demi said: ‘Thank you for the opportunity, but I think I’m gonna pass.’
‘Take a break’
In 2015, Demi’s song Cool for the Summer was labelled biphobic by lesbian pop-culture site AfterEllen.
They claimed the song suggested same-sex relationships had to remain secret. The article grilled Demi, stating: ‘Oversexed, doomed, secret fake bisexuals are so over.’
Demi was also offered the chance to respond to those claims.
She responded: ‘I wish I could tell that website to “chill the fuck out” and “take a break,” because it’s just a song.
‘I think we live in a world today where no matter what you do, you’re doing something wrong, whether it’s cultural appropriation or it’s being insensitive to certain groups of people.
‘We just live in that age where everything we do is wrong and, unfortunately, everyone’s looking for a reason to have their voices heard, and sometimes it’s not always in the most positive way.’
‘Everyone’s always looking for a headline’
Demi stands her ground in terms of talking openly about her own sexuality.
She remains private, explaining it feels like ‘everyone’s always looking for a headline and they always want to be the one to break what my sexuality is.’
She says he sexuality is irrelevant to what her music.
Then Demi alludes that we might learn a bit more about her in her upcoming documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated.
After saying she answers a lot of questions in her documentary, Pride Source asked if they were questions about her sexuality.
She responded: ‘Yeah, some about that. Because if ever I want to talk about it, I want it to be on my own terms.’
Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated comes out on Youtube 17 October. We’ll have to wait till then for answers.
