Despite mixed reviews, Neil Patrick Harris would host the Oscars again if asked

Neil Patrick Harris has hosted the Oscars, Emmys and Tonys

Neil Patrick Harris is busy talking up his gig as host of the eight episode NBC series Best Time Ever.

But there is still interest in his other recent hosting gig: the 87th Academy Awards.

After hosting four Tony Awards and two Emmy telecasts to rave reviews, Harris as Oscar host did not draw universal praise with a few of his comedy bits falling flat.

But the performer said during this week’s Television Critics Association Press Tour that the mixed reviews doesn’t mean he’s closed to doing the Oscars again if the opportunity presents itself.

“It’s a rare ask,’ he says.

‘It’s a lot of effort that goes into something that, at the end of the day, becomes inconsequential,’ he adds. ‘If you think about it you’d be hard pressed to remember the nominees. It just goes away and there’s a new thing. That’s the interesting dynamic. You spend an asinine amount of time overthinking it and as soon as it’s done it just sort of vanishes. I’d do it again if I was asked. I had a really fun time.’

Best Time Ever will premiere on 15 September.
