Disney actor fired for allegedly attempting to have sex with a minor

Disney recently fired an actor on one of their original Disney Channel shows after police arrested him for allegedly trying to have sex with a minor.

Police arrested actor Stoney Westmoreland in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday (14 December) after a successful sting operation.

‘He arranged to meet up with what he thought was a 13-year old,’ said Detective Greg Wilking.

CNN reported the minor was a boy.

Westmoreland appeared in the LGBTI-inclusive series Andi Mack. The show made history last year when it aired the channel’s first ever coming out scene.

Westmoreland, 48, reportedly used a ride-share service Thursday (13 December) night to go to a trailer park in the city and meet the underage boy.

He had been using a dating app to meet, converse with, and send sexually explicit photos to someone he believed to be a minor. It is unclear if Westmoreland was actually communicating with a minor, or an officer posing a minor.

Police charged Westmoreland with five felony counts: one count of enticing a minor by Internet or text and four counts of dealing in harmful material to a minor.

As of Saturday, Westmoreland was being held in Salt Lake City County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

Disney’s ‘responsibility’

Disney Channel spokeswoman Patti McTeague released a statement about the arrest and firing.

‘Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week.’

Westmoreland also appeared in the movies War Dogs, Matchstick Men, and Godzilla.
