Dolly Parton has discussed her views on pansexuality, bisexuality and gender-fluidity, calling such identities ‘fashionable.’
According to The Sun‘s write up of her latest interview, Dolly ‘does raise questions about the recent move among pop stars to define themselves as gender fluid, pansexual or bisexual.’
She reportedly said: ‘For me, I’m still an old timer. Sometimes I think it’s just become kind of fashionable to speak out like that. I think some of them even say more than who they really are.’
The star, who is godmother to pansexual, gender-fluid pop star Miley Cyrus, furthermore suggested some bi, pan and gender-fluid people exaggerate their identities.
‘I think they just want to be part of that whole movement to make people think that they’re so free and all that,’ she said.
‘But I don’t really know how they feel inside. I know how I feel inside. Miley, she does a lot of stuff for effect, and I think a lot of them do.’
‘People love to gossip’
The music icon also addressed rumors she is gay in her chat, saying she ‘doesn’t care’ about the speculation – and, in fact, she sees a silver lining in it.
‘People love to talk — but sometimes that’s your best publicity,’ says the star, known for hits like Coat of Many Colors and Dumb Blonde.
‘I don’t care what they say as long as they don’t hurt other people I love,’ she added.
‘People love to gossip,’ Dolly, in London to launch the 9 to 5 musical, continued. ‘They’ve said that about Oprah but it’s not true.’
Rumors have swirled for years that the Jolene singer is in a relationship with her best friend Judy Ogle.
‘So people say that – because you can’t really have a great relationship with a woman,’ she added. ‘I’m not gay but I have so many gay friends and I accept everybody for who they are.’
Dolly has been married to husband Carl Dean for 53 years.
