Donald Trump bungles details of Pulse massacre

US President Donald Trump

This past Friday (16 December), President-elect Donald Trump was in Orlando, Florida to thank voters for his November victory. He mentioned the Pulse massacre, but seemed not to know an important detail about the gunman.

This past June Omar Mateen walked into the gay nightclub, on its Latin night, and shot 49 people to death; there were 53 survivors. The shooter was killed by police after a three hour standoff. In calls to 911, he claimed allegiance to ISIS and other terrorists organizations.

In his speech to an enthusiastic crowd, Trump mentioned the worst mass shooting in US history.

‘Let me keep this as clearly as I can: I am going to keep radical Islamic terrorists the hell out of our country,’ the president-elect said, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

As the newspaper points out the shooter was born in Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City.

Trump also promised new immigration policies that would include ‘extreme vetting’ and suspension of people entering the country from regions that ‘cannot be safely processed.’

As NewNowNext reports, Trump has never stepped foot on the site of the nightclub. Surrogates Omarosa and Eric Trump’s wife, Lara, have visited.
