Raja Gemini (Sutan Amrull), winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3, got married on Thursday, 14 December to year-long boyfriend Ryan Turner.
Instead of opting for a big, elaborate wedding, the couple chose a small, impromptu ceremony with family and friends.
Raja hinted at the nuptials on Facebook:
‘Following my heart with no regrets, qualms, or hesitation. Do you,’ the queen wrote.
‘We did the City Hall thing. It all happened very rapidly, Raja told Hornet. ‘We decided a long time ago that we were gonna do it. We pretty much knew from the get go that we were gonna marry each other. We just decided one day, “Let’s just fucking do it.” So we found out where to go, filled out all the right paperwork, and then decided to do it immediately.’
‘It seems rushed, but it was something that had to be done. There was just no way around it. We were like “Let’s just get married.”’
Raja met Ryan Turner over Facebook about three years ago. When Raja did a performance in Toronto, where Turner is from, he showed up to meet her in person. From there, they became close friends and started to date about a year ago.
‘The city gave us several different options of where we could [get married], and there’s limited days where you can go in. We wanted to do it as soon as possible, and the next available opportunity was in Norwalk. I was like, “OK, that’s hood as fuck. Let’s go to Norwalk,”’ Raja explained.
In addition to Raja’s mom, two sisters, nieces, and brothers-in-law attending the wedding, fellow Drag Race alums (and fellow Heathers) Delta Work and Manila Luzon were in attendance. The trio have been good friends since filming RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3.
The post-ceremony reception took place at Padre’s in Long Beach, a restaurant Raja described as ‘gorgeous.’
The happy couple plans to honeymoon in Argentina.
