US professional basketball player Dwight Howard denied rumors he’s gay.

The proclamation comes about after a man named Masin Elije claimed the two had a sexual relationship. Eljie also alleged Dwight offered him ‘hush money’ when things ended.

‘I’m not gay,’ Howard told Kristine Leahy from FS1’s Fair Game. ‘There’s people who have different problems in life and they have to hide. They have to put on the mask every day, and it’s like, I don’t wanna wear no mask, I just wanna be.’

He then added: ‘I saw how a lot of people feel. Whether they’re gay or they’re straight. Whether they have issues.

‘People are afraid to be who they are. They’re afraid to just step out… because they’re afraid of what other people might say or think about them,’ he said.

Howard then directly addressed the allegations.

‘It upset me because I didn’t even know who the person was,’ he said. ‘Why would somebody who I’ve never met [and] never had any contact with make up a whole story about me?’

In March, Elije filed a lawsuit against Howard Gwinnett County, Georgia court.

Dwight Howard plays as a center for the Memphis Grizzlies in Tennessee.

He has a son with former Orlando Magic dancer and ex-partner Royce Reed. He recently proposed to girlfriend Te’a Cooper.
