Ellen DeGeneres’ father passed away this week at the age of 92.
During the Thursday (11 January) episode of her show, she spoke about his passing to her audience.
‘He was 92 years old, he had a good long life,’ she said. ‘He lived his life exactly how he wanted.’
She further explained he was a Christian Scientist his whole life and never had medicine or went to a doctor.
‘We never had medicine growing up, and he lived to be 92.’
‘Not one bone of judgment in his body’
DeGeneres went on to talk about her father’s kindness and humor.
‘He was very proud of me,’ she said, getting a little emotional. ‘He loved this show. He was a kind man, very accepting man. There was not one bone of judgment in his body.’
She also surmises she and her brother Vance got their sense of humor from him.
‘We only took one family vacation when I was a little girl,’ she recalled. ‘We came to this lot, to the Warner Bros. lot. Now I work on the lot and have my own stage with my name on it. He was really proud of that.’
Then the real tearjerker came.
DeGeneres spoke to her father before he passed away.
‘As I was leaving the building, I looked back and there was a rainbow over the Warner Bros. studio. This looks photoshopped, but this is what I saw after I talked to my dad. He died 10 minutes later.’
‘Pretty amazing,’ she said. ‘I got a rainbow before he died.’
