Ellen DeGeneres starts charity contest in honor of Jimmy Kimmel’s newborn son

Ellen DeGeneres is fighting for LGBTI equality

Ellen DeGeneres makes it no secret she likes to help people — and now her generosity has reached her famous friends.

The gay talk show host announced yesterday she set up an online donation bank for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles after they treated Jimmy Kimmel’s newborn son Billy for a rare heart condition that required open-heart surgery.

Making a donation comes with a bit of an incentive, too: one donor and nine friends will win a trip to one of Ellen’s famous 12 Days of Giveaways shows, in which she sends audiences home with the season’s hottest Christmas gifts.

Kimmel’s response to the news?

‘Thank you, Ellen, for being so DeGeneres,’ he said.

The donation contest comes after Kimmel surprised viewers on 1 May with the news of his son’s condition.

Billy survived the procedure, but his dad used the opportunity to appeal for affordable healthcare for all in the US, as the government now mulls over President Trump’s plan.
