Ellen DeGeneres has flexed her Hollywood muscle, personally calling the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to tell them to reinstate Kevin Hart as the 2019 Oscars host.
The 2019 ceremony is still without an official host after Hart stepped down from the role in December. He stepped down because old homophobic tweets of his unsurfaced, causing a global uproar.
The Academy which runs the Oscars initially wanted Hart to apologize for the tweets, but he refused. ‘I chose to pass on the apology’, Hart said on Instagram in December.
He eventually did apologize taking to Twitter to say ‘I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past’. Hart also announced would step down as Oscars host.

Ellen’s second chance
But now lesbian talk-show host wants Hart to get a second chance, especially since the Oscars has not found anyone to replace him.
She invited him onto her show to have an ‘incredible and honest conversation’ about the controversy.
‘I stopped by @theellenshowto do some promo for my new movie “The Upside” & ended up staying on for the entire hour,’ Hart wrote on Instagram.
‘Trust me when I tell you that you won’t want to miss tomorrows episode. This was by far the most raw/honest & authentic interview that I have ever done. We talk about the Oscar controversy in depth. Make sure you tune in!!!!!’
‘You’re not that guy’
Hart used the interview to say the controversy had affected his reputation and that he is not homophobic.
‘So now the slander on my name is all homophobia,’ he told Ellen.
‘So now I’m a little upset. Because I know who I am. I know I don’t have a homophobic bone in my body.
‘I don’t want to have this conversation anymore, because I know who I am. I’m not that guy.’
Ellen backed her friend.
‘I know you’re not that guy, because I know you,’ DeGeneres said to Hart.
DeGeneres went on to say: ‘I think it’s perfect that all this happened.’
‘Because there has to be a conversation about homophobia,’ she said.
‘You’ve grown, you’ve apologized, you’re apologizing again right now, you’ve done it. Don’t let those people win, host the Oscars.’
