Elton John is canceling all remaining dates on his European tour because he has been diagnosed with an appendix abscess that will require surgery.
The cancellations include a concert scheduled for Friday (12 July) at London’s Hyde Park with Elvis Costello and Ray Davies.
The 66-year-old star will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and is currently taking a course of intensive antibiotics to reduce toxins within the inflamed appendicitis site, his rep tells People.com.
John began to feel ill during his recent tour through Europe and the official diagnosis is appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis.
‘Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates,’ his rep said in a statement. ‘To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.’
The singer’s latest album, The Diving Board, is due out 24 September.
