Emma Bunton has confirmed a long-standing fan theory that the lyrics to Spice Girls’ 2 Become 1 were changed to make LGBTI fans feel more included.

The Maybe singer made the admission in a new interview with Gay Times.

The original lyrics, sang by Geri Horner, were: ‘Any deal that we endeavour/boys and girls feel good together.’ In the single version, Victoria Beckham sings: ‘Once again if we endevour/Love will bring us back together.’

Speaking about the change, Baby Spice said: ‘We changed the lyrics in a hotel. We were travelling and we were like, “Absolutely, it needs to be changed.” We felt like it needed to be more inclusive.’

‘I feel so thankful’

Speaking about the love of her LGBTI fans, Emma furthermore added: ‘I feel so thankful to them.

‘When I write or when I perform, it feels on such a more open, different level.

‘It’s so much more inclusive and special. Whenever you do G-A-Y there’s just this energy from the crowd that is like no other.’

Emma, Geri and fellow Spice Girls Mel B, Mel C will return for a UK tour next month, with Victoria sitting it out.
