Andy Bell has personally designed an exclusive tote bag for Gay Star News – and it will be available at the Gay Star Travel Expo at London’s Heaven nightclub next weekend, on January 17.
Following on from the success of the GSN tote bags designed by Jean Paul Gaultier last year, Andy is just one of the huge names we’re teaming up with for the same project this year.
As one half of iconic British synth pop band Erasure, Andy is one of the UK’s most-loved queer public figures.
‘I suppose it is quite an angry design,’ Andy told GSN about his tote bag this week. ‘It says "This is my heart and I shall do what I want with it and give to whom I want and cherish it. And woe betide anyone who thinks they have the right to trample on it or abuse me in any way, love is love – we only have one heart! We only live once!"’
On whether we’re winning or losing the fight for global LGBTI rights, Andy added: ‘I think it’s becoming more and more extreme dependent on where you go. The advent of the internet seems to have unleashed a Pandora’s Box and we gays are very easy targets for the bullies and ignorant ones around the world.
‘We have made tremendous steps in lots of places and if you believe in yin and yang, there’s bound to be a vicious backlash somewhere. It’s not just against gay people – it’s against human rights, against women and children.’
By registering your attendance at the Gay Star Travel Expo via the official Eventbrite page, you could be in with a chance of winning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Vienna to celebrate the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
