Joni Sledge, singer of Sister Sledge, has died age 60.
The singer, best known for disco gay anthem We Are Family, was found ‘unresponsive’ by her friend in her Arizona home.
Cause of death is unknown.
A statement from the Sister Sledge Facebook page read: ‘Yesterday, numbness fell upon our family.
‘We are saddened to inform you that our dear sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin, Joni passed away yesterday.
‘Please pray for us as we weep for this loss.
‘We miss her and hurt for her presence, her radiance, and the sincerity with which she loved & embraced life.

Sister Sledge: the history
Sister Sledge formed in 1971 with four sisters, Kathy, Joni, Debbie and Kim.
Hit song We Are Family sold more than a million copies after it was released in 1978.
The group were also known for He’s the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music and a cover of the Motown classic My Guy.
Kathy Sledge left the band in 1989, but the trio continued singing and releasing mostly disco tracks.
Sister Sledge performed at Brighton Pride last year, as well as Atlanta Pride in 2015.
They are strong advocates for women’s rights, performing at a London women’s march for International Women’s Day last year.
