Canadians Eric Radford and skating partner Meagan Duhamel qualified on Saturday to join the Canada team at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

This is Radford’s second Olympics, but his first as an openly gay man.

Radford came out in 2014 in an exclusive interview with Outsports. He went on to win the World Championships with Duhamel in 2015.

Radford and Duhamel finished seventh in their competition at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014. On winning the Canadian Championship in Vancouver on Saturday, Radford said the pair are more confident going into the 2018 Games.

‘We know what to expect, so much more than the last time. We know what we’re capable of.’

Proposal to boyfriend

The 32-year-old was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and lives in Montreal, Quebec. He is engaged to marry his partner, Luis Fenero, who he proposed to last summer. The moment was captured on his Instagram.

‘I’ve learned that the best things in life have a level of simplicity to them. I see it in art, I hear it in music and I feel it with this man. Loving him is simple and beautiful. The feeling of freedom and joy I had flying over the mountains is the same feeling I have when I think of life with @luis_febi …and I want to feel that forever so… I asked him to marry me and he said yes!’ (Photo: ericradford82 | Instagram)
