Johnny Weir took to Twitter on Wednesday (19 March) to announce that he and husband Victor Voronov are breaking up after just over two years of marriage.
‘It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well,’ Weir tweeted to his more than 205,000 followers.
The couple were married in December 2011.
There were recent signs of trouble in the union.
Earlier this month, Weir appeared in Lyndhurst Municipal Court in New Jersey and a judge agreed to dismiss a case against him stemming from a police report filed by Voronov last summer accusing Weir of biting him during a domestic dispute.
Weir said on his way out of the courthouse: ‘It is a private matter I do not wish to discuss.’
Weir is a three-time US men’s figure skating champion and two-time Olympian. He recently worked for NBC as a commentator for figure skating during the Olympics in Sochi and as a fashion correspondent for Access Hollywood at the Academy Awards on 2 March.
