A Filipino-Norwegian singer and actor has had to deny he’s in a relationship with a fellow actor after their on-screen sex scene leaked online.

Pirates took and distributed the scene on platforms including Twitter and PornHub within hours of it becoming available.

The scene showed Filipino-Norwegian star of the episode, Markki Stroem, with fellow actor Mike Liwag.

And the show’s producers had to request that PornHub remove ‘Markki Stroem Sex Scandal – full video’ from their platform.

However the social media storm didn’t end there.

Shortly after, a photo emerged of Stroem with his friend Marvin Agustin. The photo appeared to show them cuddling in bed together.

It sparked a storm of discussion about whether Stroem was in a relationship with the Filipino actor, chef and entrepreneur.

Stroem has previously said the pair are friends who do business together. And now both actors have confirmed the image was a fake, created in photo editing software.

Moreover, the whole storm prompted Stroem to condemn ‘outing culture’ on social media.

Unlocked – queer love in quarantine

Stroem is most famous in the Philippines as a finalist from the first series of Pilipinas Got Talent.

He has previously taken gay roles in Filipino films including Slumber Party and I Love You, Hater. He is currently starring in the Filipino adaptation of world-famous HIV play Angels in America.

However he’s now a star of coronavirus quarantine-themed gay series Unlocked.

The first episode follows a heartbroken gay man (Stroem) who hires a prostitute (Liwag) to help him cope with loneliness during coronavirus lockdown.

The story, set in the Philippines capital, Manila, shows a fairly explicit sex scene.

Stroem said: ‘It is sad to see that content can easily be pirated and posted online. Fortunately, we can rely on people who are more interested in the story rather than the love scene.’

Moreover he added they have ‘a strong LGBTQ love story’ which ‘would love people to support’.

Unlocked is streaming on Asian LGBT+ platform GagaOOLala. Each episode in the six-episode anthology series examines a different kind of loving relationship put to the test under lockdown.
