A blaze on Fire Island has destroyed several buildings in one of the most popular destinations for LGBTI travelers.

The Ice Palace, the Grove Hotel, Holly House and other buildings are completely destroyed.

The fire also damaged the boardwalk, officials said.

More than a dozen fire departments responded to the fire, which broke out around 1.30am today on Cherry Grove (27 March).

Two firefighters have been hurt. They are being treated on mainland hospitals for minor injuries.

A total of 77 firefighters and 12 ambulance personnel are fighting the flames and helping the locals and tourists.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
