The first trailer for Netflix’s new take on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy is here — and it’s a lot. In a good way.
The new iteration features an all new crew tasked with giving a complete life makeover to a straight man. The areas they focus on include culture (Karamo Brown), grooming (Jonathan Van Ness), fashion (Tan France), food and wine (Antonio Porowski), and interior design (Bobby Berk).
It follows much the same outline as the original 2003 program, which became an Emmy winner.
However, being on Netflix instead of original network Bravo, means a couple of things, including the potential for deeper dives (given Netflix has no commercials or censors).
Series creator David Collins said if the original was about tolerance, ‘this time it is about acceptance’. And it shows in the trailer.
There’s diversity, tears, laughter, and a really terrible pair of pants. Queer Eye is back and looking better than ever.
When Bobby tells one of their straight guys he’s been married for five years, the man asks: ‘Are you the husband or the wife?’
‘That is a misconception,’ Bobby quickly responds.
Jonathan, from the back seat of the car, chimes in: ‘Let’s unpack that.’
This show has it all.
Queer Eye arrives on Netflix on 7 February.
