A New York City based photographer is building a following with his sexy photos of male models.
Brooklyn’s Warren Giddarie tells GSN that he has been studying photography and creating images for the past 15 years.
‘I’ve always been focused on portraits and exploring themes of isolation, despair and voyeurism.’
Last year he decided to launch his own magazine, Fluorescent. The first issue came out 2017, with a second due this year.
‘I always loved going to the bookstores, hitting up the photography section and falling in love with these remarkable images from Gregory Crewdson, David Lachapelle, Steven Klein and Mario Testino,’ he says.
‘I knew that I needed to collect and print my images this way. Fluorescent zine was a way for me to dip my toe in the water.’
The first issue of Fluorescent proved a hit. His decision to produce his first calendar, which went on sale last fall, was also popular.
‘I’m very passionate about bringing my images to print and wanted to highlight recent work that I was excited about,’ he says of the decision to produce the calendar.
‘The idea for a calendar was my husband’s and he suggested collaborating with an illustrator to make it more whimsical. This project was so much fun and such a success that we are already hard at work on the 2019 calendar.’
Finding his models
Giddarie says that he typically shoots friends but has also found some of his models via Instagram – where you can also admire much of his work (@warrenpiece).
‘I’ve never worked with traditional models,’ he explains. ‘I’ve always been drawn to the unique beauty of men I meet in my everyday life. My goal is to create an image that will allow the viewer to feel the connection we made in the session, however uncomfortable or arousing that may be.’
