Four men in Indonesia were arrested for spreading ‘immoral’ content on social media, including images of BDSM.

National Police arrested the four men, including 42-year-old AM who runs a Facebook account dedicated to his services as a BDSM master. A second man, 30-year-old NH, was a massage therapist.

BDSM is sexual fetish using that includes bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism.

‘Police Crime Task Force Crime Task Force has been arrested the perpetrators of dissemination of videos and photos of sexually immoral content with the classification of BDSM,’ Police Brigadier General Fadil Imran said in a written statement.

Fadil accused AM of spreading photos and videos on his Facebook page and in other groups to try and find other people also interested in BDSM.

Police lined up the four men in front of media forcing them to wear signs around their necks labelling them, ‘Master 1’, ‘Slave 1’, ‘Master 2’ and ‘Slave 2’.

Police said they also seized ‘eleven types of BDSM equipment’ from NH and AM.

The men are likely to be charged under the 2016 Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law or under Indonesia’s anti-pornography which could see them jailed for up to 10 years.

Gay persecution

A friend of AM’s told Gay Star News that his arrest was because of his sexuality.

‘The picture doesn’t even have genital pics on it. They (police) think it’s porn because they simply don’t understand BDSM and hate gays,’ he said.

It is not illegal to be gay in Indonesia, but there has been a recent clampdown on the LGBTI community there.

The arrests do fit a pattern of Indonesian police targeting gay events and detaining men under the anti-pornography laws.

In April, 14 men were arrested in Surabaya and forced to take HIV tests. Police arrested the men for allegedly watching gay porn.

More than 200 men have been detained and arrested at gay saunas, gyms and parties across Jakarta in 2017 alone.
