Openly queer recording artist Frank Ocean recently got a new tattoo. The ink, which appears to be a cover-up of a previous tattoo, features Matt Groening’s 1983 artwork titled ‘Homo vs. Hetero.’
Groening is best known as the creator of popular animated shows like The Simpsons and Futurama. His 1983 ‘Homo vs. Hetero’ piece features illustrations of a queer bunny couple and a straight bunny couple. The work asks, ‘which is better?’ but implies there is no real difference between the two couples. It takes into account happiness, heartbreak, societal inclusion, and more. The cartoon, which predates The Simpsons, was part of Groening’s Life in Hell comic strip.

Ocean shared his new tattoo, located on his thigh, on his Instagram Story. Ocean’s tattoo is of the same-sex couple from Groening’s artwork.
