Le Gateau Chocolat explains why we all need icons

Le Gateau Chocolat

UK-based drag performer, Le Gateau Chocolat, has just unveiled his brand new show, Icons, at London’s Soho Theatre.

Following up 2014’s Black, which explored his background and mental health issues, Icons is another mix of song and personal insight.

Le Gateau – a professional opera singer who recently featured in the English National Opera’s Threepenny Opera – offers unique interpretations of songs by the artists who have inspired him: Grace Jones to Elvis, Kate Bush to Pavarotti.

Iconic moments, books and art are all explored in this intimate, one-hour show, which is running nightly in the basement of Soho Theatre until 7 January 2017.

Le Gateau was raised in Nigeria but moved to the UK to study law with the intention of being a lawyer. However, after graduating, he realized his heart lay on the stage. He’s been performing as Le Gateau Chocolat since 2011.

He chatted with Gay Star News about what turns someone into an icon, and what his own personal icons have in common.
