A gay family featured in an advertising campaign for McCain chips have faced hateful social media backlash since the ad aired.

Lee and Mat Samuels-Camozzi said they’ve been called perverts, sick and pedophiles.

Customer relations manager Lee, 35, told the Daily Record: ‘We’ve had dozens of hateful comments.

‘One of the most hurtful compared us to perverts, saying “Whatever next, society accepting pedophiles?”

‘We’re shocked this kind of attitude exists in the 21st century. We’re proud of our little family and we have nothing to be ashamed of,’ he said.

‘It’s wrong and sickening’

Lee and Mat had baby Carter via surrogate almost 20 months ago. Most of the comments are positive but some commenters weren’t happy about the ad.

One wrote on Facebook: ‘Sorry I feel it’s wrong and sickening.’

Another said: ‘Seems to me that they’re just trying to make a big deal out of it by thrusting it down our throats.’

Another commented: ‘Is there any need for it to look cringey and sexual? I ain’t got a problem with same sex relationships but I don’t want it rammin’ in my eyes like that.’

And one simply wrote: ‘Done buying McCain chips.’
