Gay icon Cher explains why it’s taking her so long to finish her long-awaited new album

Cher fans have already been waiting since 2002 for the diva to release an album of new material.

The singer, who has had number one records in six different decades dating back to the 1960s, took to Twitter over the weekend to explain why she is taking so long to finish her latest album which was originally scheduled to be out at Christmas.

‘I Believe you’ll think it’s worth it!’ she tweeted to her 1.3 million followers. ‘Ya see, as I’ve been recording songwriters are coming up with amazing songs!’

Cher’s last full album was Living Proof in 2002. Since then, she has released the greatest hits album Gold and a live album of her ‘farewell’ tour concert. She also recorded two songs for her Burlesque movie in 2010 including the Golden Globe Award winning power ballad You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.

‘As an artist whose last release was 11 yrs ago,’ I want to sing my heart out!’ Cher writes. ‘Some think I haven’t sung because I no longer can. It is why I’ve taken so long. I want it to be perfect.’

The album is tentatively scheduled to be released next month and Cher says to expect her to mix some high notes in with her signature contralto.

‘All the songs in this CD have notes so high only dogs will hear them!’ Cher claims. ‘Notes should go lower as singers get older. Ahh…well… You Haven’t Seen the Last Of Me blew that! Think those are my highest notes? All of the songs on this CD have choruses that are nose bled/break glass notes!’
