Gay man announced as Batwoman’s new writer

DC Comics has hired a gay writer for Batwoman.

When the lesbian superhero’s previous writers sensationally quit last week accusing the global comic book company of blocking a gay wedding storyline, many accused DC of homophobia.

Surely hoping to stop the negative press, Marc Andreyko was announced as the new talent to take on Kate Kane.

He said: ‘Yes, it’s true: I’m the new writer of Batwoman! And, as I prepare for the interweb onslaught, a few things: I ADORE J.H. Williams and Greg Rucka and Haden Blackman and the great characters they’ve created so lovingly.’

Andreyko added: ‘I am taking this job very seriously and hope to do right by Kate, Maggie, Bette and the rest of the cast. This all happened very quickly,  so I’m trying to catch my breath and let it sink in.’

A previously minor character, Batwoman was given her own book when DC recently re-launched its titles.

DC Comics said: ‘As acknowledged by the creators involved, the editorial differences with the writers of BATWOMAN had nothing to do with the character’s sexual orientation’

In the new series, Batwoman was revealed as an openly proud lesbian in a long-term relationship with Gotham Detective Maggie Sawyer.

Last year, DC also reinvented one of its most established heroes, Green Lantern Alan Scott, as a gay man. Both characters receieved strong fan and critical approval.
